That is a good point at the end! I didn't even think about how much I was subverting that trope. Though I did carve out additional safe options, mainly to justify building upon a canon scene coming up in the evening, so they won't be spending a ton of time there. I'm not sure how well "a garden or an area of strong spirit energy is safer from demons" necessarily fits into Inyouchuu lore, but hopefully it's an acceptable way of keeping them temporarily safe for the sake of plot convenience.

The friends are as back-together as they can be at this point, Sunny recalls some past traumas, and the Black Cat Demon-Hunting Agency has officially made their journey. But there is oh so much journey still left.

Even though I know what the big twist is, I will refrain from continuing the fic until I've played through the game to appreciate the journey to get to that point (The Doom Mega WAD Abyssal Apocrypha had my attention, but I'm taking a break from it since it's become a little tedious doing the necessary secret hunting to find the correct exit to each map)

Also I'm clear now on the main plot fork: Answering the door each day and exploring the town is the "Engage with the actual story" path, remaining a shut-in is the "Ignore the story and play expanded optional sections to fully engage with the RPG system" path

Yep, answering the door is the main point where the story branches, although there's also a couple very late-game moments that might not be as obvious and will mean the difference between the Good End and otherwise.

Though, dang, you got spoiled huh? I was lucky enough to avoid that until I'd beaten the game, but yeah, considering how hard it hits emotionally, it's a dang hard secret for the fandom to keep.
