I do find it pretty interesting just how much of Inyouchuu is inspired or straight ripped from mythology and folklore. Speaking of which, the name Shiratori is an old traditional name that means "white bird" and specifically "swan," and I guarantee there's something else on this name-meanings page that will catch your eye!

The thing about the mythology also reminds me of an earlier discussion where I suggested this:

And I'll admit, I have thought "hey, what if there was a Celtic-culture equivalent to Inyouchuu...?"

Seems like a lot of possible sources of inspiration for fanmade monsters and bosses. Just take your favorite folklore creature, give it a name, and make it horny for teenagers, and bam - your very own Inyouchuu villain!

It essentially writes itself! I will definitely use this website for later projects. The research itself is fun and also gives some insight on certain characters. Also I think I caught what you were referencing, looks to be a funny coincidence on a surface level. Perhaps something relevant could arise when reading the actual tale.

Not real mythology or folklore lol, but I always think of the Nightmare on Elm Street series. How Freddy terrorizes people in their sleep, not totally unlike Nightmare and his illusions heh.

Gyuki is another one that's interesting to read about.

It's kind of funny how many people draw that comparison. One of the readers on my current fic just said as much in a comment on the latest chapter:

Any easy Nightmare fanfic idea, where the girls wake up preggers or whatnot from crazy nightmares that are somehow totally real in another realm.

Posting here because it’s a semi-plothole whose answer could be lore, headcanon, or a fanfic idea depending on the answer:

Whether or not the twin’s immortality was a curse by Meioki to torment them or a blessing by their mother to protect them, it’s odd that the same spell was never used on her. Curious if the actual games ever answer this or suggest one.

If the mother was the one who cast the spell, then the best explanation I can think of was that she didn’t want to make herself immortal or else Meioki would be able to use her as an eternal breeder, but I was also under the impression that the whole family was captured, so the same risk would apply to the twins if they hadn’t escaped from Meioki, and if they could escape, surely their mother could as well.

Interesting... definitely became a curse for the twins and their situation. Maybe some missing detail in the middle here, she was trying to help and it backfired in this way.

I still like the idea that Meioki is a closet lolicon haha. The first time we see another character de-aged too (going off the original first game, then Shoku), with his torturing of Takeru to try and reel in the other members.

Still on the fence on if I should tweak my loli Takeru x Meioki fanfic to be with Mushijuro though. He's even nastier... and you know that means a plus for me. But Meioki has the ultimate dicks...
