meant to comment on this earlier but these look awesome! i want to get back into pixel art, i find it really tough though, since it can be hard for me to figure out how to get something to read well with pixels and it seems like the placement of each pixel is so important.

so ive been meaning to do some fan art of Sui since I wanted to make my own profile pic for this site, the only thing is while i like drawing I keep putting off studying and doing the fundamentals, ive sometimes looked at some art tutorial stuff or started studying stuff but im bad at sticking with it, and while it probably would make a difference i guess apart of me is afraid that even if i did stick with it and really tried to learn anatomy and all that stuff that somehow i wouldn't see much improvement. i know thats probably not true but my brain just seems to like thinking quite negatively sometimes for some reason. i think im better then where i started at least but id say im pretty inconsistent so sometimes it just feels like i can't draw at all. i think when i was first working on this Sui piece i was happy with it, and now there is some stuff im not as happy with, but ultimately im at least glad i finished it and ill probably just move on to another still unfinished piece for now.  

I would like to try doing more traditional art as i think in some ways ive become too reliant on the convenience of using a million layers or being able to resize something if i drew something too big or small, etc. and maybe i could save some time not having to swap between layers so much etc. i honestly didn't think it would take me as long to finish colouring it as i did, but i still had some messy lines that had to be cleaned up a bit that i missed somehow. at least i had fun listening to the nine inch nails ghost album while working on it, and i had fun working on it, but I think eventually ill have to actually figure out a better process for drawing/colouring both to save time and to make it look better, for one i struggle with sometimes making my lines too thick sometimes, i think i should have made the lines for the hair thinner at least. oh and i also didn't really have anything planned out this time which didn't help, i knew i wanted to draw Sui for a profile pic and that was it lol. so when trying to figure out the outfit, i wasn't sure what to put her in, I was thinking of maybe doing an existing outfit that she wears in the series already at first, like maybe one of the dresses she has in some of her art and then i thought about a nurse outfit for some reason(inyouchuu Kyou on the mind i guess), but i wanted more colour with some pink and yellow instead of just white, anyways it ended up becoming my own hybrid outfit for her so if it doesn't make much sense then thats why, truthfully i probably should have put a bit more thought into that part of it, im bad at figuring out clothes though so i usually just try to keep things fairly simple. oh and the pose. im a bit embarassed about that too, i didn't really have anything planned but since i was trying to do this one fast since i just wanted something i could use for a profile pic and i have other drawings im in the middle of that i meant to finish first, i ended up kinda just having Sui put her hands behind her back lazily, though i still don't think the arms look quite right here. I ended up resizing the mouth fairly last minute too as i was kinda on the fence before about if i had made it too big or not but didn't decide to change it until i had already started colouring it.

Im working on a mikoto drawing too, somehow i feel like i might have lost something when going from a sketch to the finished linework, im really bad at lines i swear, like i don't know why but something like trying to make a line actually look nice always feels so hard for me usually. maybe my lines are just too stiff lately and i need them to be more flowy somehow.

anyways i was in a bit of a drawing slump the last little while so maybe that didn't help either, i can't really improve if i stop drawing for big chunks at a time, the years alreadys slipping away too fast as usual! but lately ive been at least trying to get more stuff done and doodle when i can, so hopefully i can learn some stuff this year if i can start making it a habit to study. so theres 2 versions, one with the cap, and one without the nurse cap. to post them here i gotta lower the resolution though, not really sure what the best way to shrink filesize is, so it might end up losing some quality as a result. Oh yeah and i decided to give her a cat tail here to go with the ears! actually does anyone know why she has those cat ears? is that ever explained? meant to ask about it in the lore thread but forgot. also wondering if i should come up with a better username, just bad at coming up with names though.

So happy to see someone else willing to pick up a pencil (digitally speaking) and hone their drawing skills in this day and age! Sui is always adorable and I can see you're putting that cuteness to good use here. Interesting question about the cat ears - she's always been depicted with them, and her sister (?) Shion from Hanamaru 2 also has the same thing. I'm honestly not sure, but from what little I've scraped from past communities, it seems like it's actually just a hair style...? I'll have to check back - I still have a ton of stuff to go through and dump into the lore thread and/or the wiki. Oh, yeah, the wiki. Really gotta work on that soon too.

When it comes to getting good at art, practice is one of the major keys to mastery. It'll give you a feel for the tools and specific settings that work best for you. Another is going back to be your own critic, acknowledging what might need improvement. Sounds like you're successfully in that stage now, thinking of how to improve - hang onto that feeling!

You will, trust me! It'll take some time, but with enough attention to shapes and proportions, you'll eventually develop a muscle memory of sorts. If you keep doubting that you'll improve, let me share something with you. The picture below on the left (in terrible resolution) was the first character I really properly tried to draw when I got my tablet. On the right is a secondary character from an ongoing novel I've been working on. Both of these images were done with a Wacom One tablet and the Krita drawing software with no immediate references or tracing, and the only real difference is my own experience:

The unnamed character on the left was drawn in December 2024. Mako on the right was drawn in December 2025. And a year before I started, I was still convinced I'd never be able to draw well. I realize this example is not Inyouchuu-related, but it still fits the context here. And yes, the newer picture looking kinda like the Suzuki Mirano art style is very much intentional.

I think you're good on the image size on your end. I didn't even realize what the issue was until I tried jumping back to the default forum theme - I've been using the somewhat more enhanced but poorly named blue-dark that you can select at the bottom of the page. I might do some tweaking to just auto-resize images a bit more than currently, though. Let me know if that 2MB file limit is just too small as well, I can bump it up if it becomes a problem for us. Send me a PM if you want your name changed - I don't think the forum itself lets you change your own name, but it's doable from the admin controls.

Suiisbestgirl: Those are adorable! Gotta love the sexy nurse outfits in Kyou, but yeah you using some extra colors is nice. Plus that yellow reminds me of her schoolgirl outfit shade a bit. And pink would work well standing next to Rinko haha. I love the second version with the cute hat. I'm impressed with her face and the coloring!

I mean, for a decent chunk of the fandom, Sui is in fact best girl - #2 most popular character by an older JP poll, in fact - so it certainly fits as is!

Yep, can't underestimate Sui haha.

And I always have to point this out about the first pic where she ranked lower than Mikoto by one point, this was during Etsu's era, when Sui is completely MIA from that game (but appeared in the supplemental e-novel). I wonder if whoever decided Sui shouldn't be in Etsu, got slapped at TB. lol

Second poll is probably Kyou 2010's era from the online gacha card game thing. I have no idea what those numbers mean, but yeah.

As the Inyouchuu historian:

• Mikoto and Sui are always ranked neck and neck
• Takeru tends to hang on around the top 5 spot usually
• Ouka is very popular
• Rinko shot up the ranks very quickly and has held strong

Kikuka is the one that gets the least amount of love for the main girls probably. But I know I and NotImportent love her and will make up for that.

Sui is supposedly gone to be the main office's secretary in that one, that was their excuse for why she wasn't in the game. Yet, while she's one of the weaker ones physically, she has a high spiritual affinity, clairvoyance, and healing powers. Absolutely no logical reason for that writing choice IMO!

Yeah that makes no sense lol. no wonder people didn't like Etsu! no Sui! I was actually pretty interested in Etsu but now i have more reason to think maybe everyone is right about it being the weakest in the series XD. I think from what Echelon V was saying, the top 5 makes sense to me cause its basically the main characters or ones that have the most focus throughout the series in the top 5 right? but yeah id love to see that partial english etsu script, would be interesting at least. I really need more of these games in english so I can see Sui and Rinko interact sometime.

Yeah, in the end I think it makes sense the main girls would be most favored overall. We just gotta protect poor Kikuka who falls a bit behind. All that Meioki dungeon action for years...

But yeah Rinko and even both Ouka and Kikuka I would label as main characters overall along with the primary trio of Mikoto, Sui, and Takeru.
