Favorite installment? A tough question to answer, myself, since my exposure to this series hasn't been very deep until more recently. After beating a few main routes of the English release of Shin, I would've said that one, given how close it made me to the characters. That said, now that I've had a more detailed look into what lore the other games (including the original) will offer me when I eventually get around to playing them through a translator, it's hard to say where that opinion will go.
Now, if we're talking OVAs, that's easy: Episode 1 of Inyouchuu The Animation. There are plenty of fans who dismiss ITA as being too tame in comparison to the rest, but I'll go on record to argue that a tame introduction is exactly what it takes for a new fan to ease into the series. If my own first exposure to Inyouchuu had been one of the more extreme and lore-accurate scenes back in my much more naive years, I might've written it off as something far more intense than I was comfortable with, and never looked back. I'm also head-over-heels in love with the Suzuki Mirano (?) art style that it uses, to the point where I'm gradually training myself to draw my own art in that style as well.

Favorite character? Asking the real questions here! My first impulse is to say Mikoto; she's the star of the franchise, a certifiable hottie, and I've even cosplayed her. Yet, at the same time, my appreciation for Takeru has significantly grown lately as well, now that I've learned how closely her establishing story serves as an allegory to my own life and identity (see my opening post of the Introduce Yourself thread, for those who care to know).
And then there's Sui - who, personality-wise, is a lot like me... though she's much hornier.

Favorite scene? For my own emotional reasons, easily this moment right here (link to later post on this thread) from the end of Shin. But aside from that, it depends on what mood I'm in! I have to admit the Takeru+Sui interactions in Shin are absolutely adorable, with an emotionally flirty nature that prompted me to ship the two of them in my fanfic. As far as OVA stuff, the famed Nightmare x Mikoto scene definitely ranks highly, although there are plenty of good moments across most of them. And if you want my favorite CG... that's a tough one. Maybe I'll come back to it after I've actually played a few more of them in context.

Favorite songs? Oh, gosh. TrioDesign cooked up some absolute masterpieces in these games, and it's hard to even narrow down my favorites. I'm familiar with the soundtracks from the first two games and Shin. From that, I can say all three OPs are amazing (No Way, Feeling This, and Undermine), as are the sword/battle songs from each. The recurring song used in particular at the beginning of Takeru's route in Shin is immensely catchy. Shoku has a few variations on a common leitmotif for general story music that I also enjoy quite a bit. There's probably more I'd call out, too, but those are some of the big ones for me.
I just wish I knew actual titles of most of those. There was a "Best Of" CD including a mix of music from the first two games, which actually specifies song names for the BGM tracks, but I don't know the rest of them outside of what I "headcanon" if you will.

Favorite Tentacle: Given my preferred entry in the series with regard to H content, it's fair to say my favorite tentacles are the slimy reddish-brown ones depicted in ITA. I'd gladly trade places with Mikoto in any of those scenes.

Favorite Bug: I'll have to admit the giant creature paired up with Mikoto in Etsu very much caught my attention the first time I saw it, though I must also appreciate the famous giant grubs.

I am happily a traditional straight guy, but we always have these little scenario dreams... maybe being a cute Aojiru girl for a day to serve Nightmare would be fun. I've admitted over the years I do find him enticing to be honest, great sexy body and cock(S). Which makes it even hotter and lovable to see him and Mikoto together. I wanna watch them fuck for hours. XD

I can only assume most fans would prefer the role of the monsters, but there has to be a certain segment of the fandom that would rather be the girl (including myself) or at least try it once. I agree with that on ITA! Was happy to "evolve" myself as this series expanded along the way and starting off with ITA and the first game is a nice vanilla-looking entry point now haha. It is still wild how much animated sex is in ITA. And yeah a lot of people like that PoRo style. I was a huge fan of it myself and wanted more. Shame we didn't get PoRo Takeru. Overall I've always loved Aojiru's style by miles more than anything else, and appreciate that the Shoku OVA and Etsu kind of try to mimic it more. But I don't mind ITA doing its own thing and the characters are very cute in a different lens.

Should have had Nightmare horse mode in episode 2 still. That was such a disappointment to me...

I'll have to do my post tonight or soonish, maybe with my own tiers. But my #2 was in flux a lot. I'll say Ouka was in that slot the longest probably, but over the years Takeru made her way into it. She is beautiful once those scientist like boy clothes are off haha. I love the short hair and her wildly different personality than Mikoto's. Her actual canon abuse in the series makes her story compelling in ways, or more hot to think of how she evolves into a slut if you will... having to fight off the urges and mutations in her body. I know Barber of Damascus liked beaten down heroines and Takeru is that. Just makes you want to protect her more in the end when it's not tentacle time haha. And H content wise I just realized over the years, she might be one of the most consistently sexy across the entire series, scenes wise. There is a bio cave lake filled to the brim of good Takeru scenes. She might not be a standout immediately on paper, but Takeru is semi secretly amazing and so consistent.

tl;dr if you're liking Takeru more lately, I think she'll just keep leveling up for you.

Currently working on the Takeru portion of my comparison and it echoes a little of what you're saying lol. The fact that she's always so close to regressing back to her seedbed status makes her very erotic, that struggle is enjoyable to see.

Her androgynous design is understated in later installments, but that may be on purpose. I like to read it as Takeru becoming more promiscuous after her time with the demons as well as her body itself changing too. In Shoku, she is wearing a very revealing swimsuit and her casual clothes show off her body in a nice way too. Her portrait in later entries shows off her body better too, even when in uniform. But her Shin portrait does that too, so I might just be talking out of my ass.

 

 

Side note: Her breasts get nerfed after etsu and that makes me sad

That's a good observation, could be a combo of...

• Takeru getting more comfortable in her own skin and or, more horny with those demon organs. So the urge to mate is higher haha

• Maybe Tinker Bell thought she was getting too covered up, sex sells, so they showed more skin

Etsu Takeru is like borderline milf or something strange. I'm like, I really enjoy her design there still with some great scenes, but it's not my favorite or preference for Takeru.

I actually love Shin Takeru the best. They made her a lot cuter/younger again in some way, but I adore it. She looks softer in some way. You're right though, kind of lost some of her tomboy edge there.
