RE: General fanfic writing thread! - Ellie - 07-25-2026 So, no joke... I wasn't sure either, so I googled the phrase "tilting bamboo fountain" in the hopes I would hit upon the actual term... and that's literally what it's called. I assume this is the thing you're talking about? I love that we're starting to get more fanfics getting written now that we have a community to chat about it. It sounds like that will be a fun one to check out, and I'm very familiar with second-guessing and going back to change things. Very much guilty of that with mine! (it was on the thread for the fanfic I gave up on) RE: General fanfic writing thread! - Ellie - 07-27-2026 Sure thing! A guide to properly flowing dialogue into narrative: Mikoto cleared her throat. "Well, yeah, but the narrative can fully end its sentence if the quote follows it." "Right, and the quote generally ends in a comma if it comes first and the action of the narrative finishes off the quote," Takeru added. "Or end the sentence normally if it doesn't!" "Oh." Takeru perked up suddenly. "If the character's action isn't specifically describing how they said their line, but just what they're doing at the same time, then the quote before it can just end as a sentence." And then they probably had hot demon sex or something. Not directly related to writing but still related to dialogue, there's a new feature in our quote formatting on this site where you can format a character's quote like it was appearing in the game: > [name] text 【Takeru】
This is exactly what I'm talking about, Mikoto. This is a way you can quote characters on the forum. |
