Made some progress on the forum thread list page, bringing it up to the theme standards I've been working with. Discovered there was a "view new posts" feature I didn't even know existed - it used to be a green arrow, apparently, and now it just says New Posts which is a lot more intuitive if you ask me.

New lightbulb images for unread posts in the main page and now the thread lists as well. It's the little blue fireball associated with Yoru, though I might swap it in for something better matching the style around it. There actually was no functionality built in for having the new post bulb visible on the thread list page, so I had to find a way to implement that.

There ended up being so much horizontal space on desktop that I decided to throw another copy of the chat onto the side for that page (or bottom on mobile). Templates are broken for some reason though, so the formatting is off and the avatar is huge.

EDIT: Fixed it! Turns out it wasn't the templates, it was the stylesheet, which was not getting loaded for the forumdisplay page. Getting somewhere...

Slowly chipping away at site layout. There's actually been a fair amount of progress now, and now the Quick Reply box is formatted like a pseudo-post after the last post in the thread, making things feel a bit more cohesive IMO. Also, the Markdown composer is now enabled on Quick Reply, so you can play with those buttons and see the preview functionality!

I will eventually be phasing out the Full Reply page entirely, and moving the smileys list and attachments feature into the Quick Reply field. This will give you all the features we had but with less steps to get to it.

Also, the broken Quick Edit is now fixed on the new theme! What's still broken is the user info boxes on mobile, which sort of kick off to one side. We'll see about that.

It should be noted that the actual posting of quick replies is still slightly broken, and new posts appear below the reply composer now... it's a work in progress. But it does technically work!

Had a hunch about how Quick Reply works, so I made a tweak to the template and I'm making another post to see if I'm right. I wonder if I'll embarrass myself the moment I take another look at the source code...

[Update] The answer is, of course, that I was not right. However, the post edit menu is now themed, although I just discovered a bug where the last one before the Quick Reply box doesn't work because of the overlap with that control.

Bumbled around with the source code last night, wondering what on earth is supposed to determine where new posts go... and now I can't help but wonder if it's literally the "posts" div that determines it... girlfailure in chief here, everybody.

So let's see if that worked.

Edit: HOLY CRAP IT ACTUALLY DID.
On the other hand, it appears you cannot "quick edit" a newly posted quick reply unless you refresh the page. So I'll have to look at that too, but at least we're getting somewhere!

Saw some trouble going on with WEBP attachments, so I'm testing it out here to see if that's resolved...

Oddly relevant moment from Undertale because that happened to be the first webp image I had within reach.

I despise WEBP. -_- Haha...

EDIT: Oh I see it wasn't playing nice with the board/attachments? All fixed now it seems?

So it still remains... WEBP is my enemy haha. Dang browsers wanting their own image file type. PNG for life!

hell yeah! PNG and JPG for life! no clue what WEBP is or why it exists but its also my enemy... i was having the same issue where sometimes id try to find a image of something like the box art for the alvin and the chipmunks adventure movie, but then id save the image and it would be in WEBP, then id try to upload it as an attachment not realising its a WEBP and of course it wouldn't work.

I will admit I spent all of yesterday evening putting together the Latest News module on the front page (beta theme only) and completely forgot to fix webp rendering.

Though I will say, given the negative opinions on that format, I'm considering a possible future of running webp attachments through ImageMagick and auto-converting them to PNG. It's true that webp's compression is more effective than jpg, but it still has a lack of support with a lot of software - some of which is old software that will never have a chance to be updated.

Yeah, their way to phase out older stuff and competition I guess. I have a FF plugin that can save them as other file types. It's a pain to work with WEBP at work though haha.

Did you mess with the contrast and colors again? It looks sharper today!

It was incredibly freaking troublesome a few years back when I didn't even have an image viewer that supported it. Lots of fun once hitomi.la started serving all CGs in webp format... so yeah, maybe I will in fact push towards legacy formats in the spirit of media preservation.

Thanks, I did indeed tweak it! The "subtle" style (for dimmer, smaller text) is now opaque, more blue, and with shadow.
