Site Layout Misadventures

All right, we now have a theme that works with phones without being a horrible microscopic experience! 

Just added the MyBB theme "Simplicity Dark." Primarily red and black color scheme. I'm thinking about maybe doing some further customizing with it, since there are a few issues I'm not a fan of, but one big bonus for some users is that it works waaaay better on mobile than the default theme.

If you're still on the default style, you can choose this one with the dropdown at the bottom of the page. The new style lacks that dropdown (lol) but you can go to User Control Panel >> Edit Options >> "Board Style" at the bottom to change it back.

I may adapt this in the future into a full "official" Inyouchuuverse forum theme (add back some white, and I'm kinda thinking flesh-cave background would be epic). But regardless, I will leave the original theme in place for those who may still prefer it. Unless nobody does!

Aaaaand learned very quickly that the quote box is broken on the new theme. All right, told you this was all a work in progress.

It's about adding a selectable theme to this site so that when you visit it on a phone, it's not full of tiny text and microscopic buttons. I made some progress, but it's not quite fully functional yet.

Happy to report that progress has been made on a layout theme! Went through a bunch of these, found one called BootBB that's still faithful to the colors we were previously working with, looks mostly like the original but maybe a bit flatter (meh...), and isn't an absolutely horrible experience on phones. And yes, I added a meat cave background!

It's selectable now from the dropdown at the bottom of the page, just be aware that it's considered a work in progress. Still playing with colors, style improvements, and probably the biggest issue right now is I haven't ported my "Mark as NSFW" button yet, so uploading typical TinkerBell content isn't going to go so well. But I think it's a good way for (if you're interested) you to check out the theme and let me know what you think. I do want to add back a bit more of the 3D-ness of the original before I call it good - flat is overdone in my opinion. Ideally whatever I do with the theme is going to end up being the one available choice going forward, so I want to make sure it works for everybody and doesn't suck in new ways.

EDIT: Mark as NSFW is back as it should be and working fine. I also played with header colors/spacing a bit, killed that absolutely horrible "counting up" jscript that animates the forum statistics on the home page, and got rid of the Helvetica font that, at least for me on Linux, comes out super wide and weird looking for some reason.

All right, so I played with colors and spacing a bit, and most importantly eliminated the absolute travesty of design that is the bottom stat counters on this theme. And now I think it's starting to look decent!

What I will say, though, is I'm absolutely not a fan of how much script it drags in, including from some outside CDNs. I may very well change it out at some point in the future, but I'll wait to hear feedback on how the site performs for everyone.

All right then, so I just replied to Random's "Good Morning" thread from my phone and sat watching a spinning "loading" indicator for half a minute before checking on PC and seeing that it had already posted. If that's anything more than a single isolated fluke, then that's a giant vote to nuke this theme and try another one.

You saw my post in the nerd forum. You know I hate poorly-written web sites.

Edit: Posted this reply from phone as well, got the same results. Screw this. I love the look I put together on this theme and I'm just going to have to recreate it on another mobile-friendly base... one that actually works as promised.
I'd dig into it myself but (a) I just don't have the time with all my other projects and (b) I already hate how it drags in JS from like three outside CDNs, and I can't imagine it would be easy to chop it all off without a lot of rewriting. So stay tuned.
