Video Games

Wow. So the main Discord server for the game OMORI (which I'm sure you're all aware I've been a huge fan of) got hacked today, swarmed with spam and edits, and almost entirely erased to purge it. Thus destroying probably five and a half years of fandom history.

Actually had to sit down and come to terms with it for a little bit. Always sad to be reminded how much of a community's history can be destroyed in an instant... hence what we're trying to do here.

Regrettably unlike a forum and sites, I don't know if Discord can revert back to a previous state either?

That's a real bummer. One moron or group of people ruining it for everyone.

Supposedly they had a pretty significant standing as a partner, so there's talk about possibly being able to recover some of the information. But still, a lot was lost, including a bunch of members who jumped ship when the hackers started tearing it apart.

My mind keeps nagging me that I had a Discord downloader and could've tried to archive stuff in the past, but at the same time I know that server scraping is against their TOS, so what would I even do with the information in it...

Yeah, sucks. They're rebuilding, though - given how much activity there was during the moment of crowded madness, I almost wonder if it prompted a few dormant members to pick it up again. Still probably lost a lot of stuff though.

Apparently it wasn't just a quick mistake. The hacker befriended the server owner months ago and played the long game to build confidence before sharing a malware link that took over their session token. They're actually saying that they're getting law enforcement involved in this, which is... impressive, I'd say.

That's freaking nasty to hear. Some people don't deserve to be on the internet. -_-

Right? Sometimes I genuinely wonder how some people's minds work that they can wake up in the morning thinking "yeah, I'm going to destroy something that people cherish today, that'll make me happy!"

I mean, and the ones who do it because they're convinced it's the morally right thing to do. We're all familiar with that...

I'm a rare breed but I never got into Pokemon much.

I get it, not into turn based combat or jrpgs as a whole tbh. I was crazy into Persona when I was in high school tho.

So there was apparently a leak from a Brazilian ratings board that revealed the next upcoming Metroid game, and if it's real the title already makes me interested in the possibilities
