I don't actually have a handy list of states, though something probably exists on the other end of a search. In my case, the occasional YouTube recommendation has alerted me to a few cases, notably this law in California and then today in Michigan (not to dox myself, but it's not hard to figure out I live there based on projects I've publicly worked on). I believe it's been brought up on Slashdot a few times though, I should probably start browsing their news more often.

For what it's worth, this site is hosted on a server in Lithuania.

It's crazy that we have to even cycle through VPN's now to get around stuff.

I think it's comical Texas of all places is locking things down so hard and setting a lot of this crap in motion. WTF?

Overall, I can contain my adult fun to PC in my home where I want the most privacy. But it's still BS if my phone further becomes an identity theft ticking time bomb tracking every damn thing I do. I can use a VPN on it but it seems to really sap the battery.

I'm sure MS is playing with these ideas when it comes to Win12. Yuck.

For how much Texans love talking about freedom, there sure are a lot of legal attacks on people who are just minding their own business. (Related: it's one of several states that I literally cannot even set foot in without severe legal and physical dangers to myself for no other reason than I had a mixup of body hormones before I was born.)

Phones can make a lot of things (things that don't require large screens or actual tech productivity) more convenient, but you're certainly right to see them as a tracking nightmare. I'm still trying to make our site mobile-friendly for those who use it, but it's sure not pleasant knowing their potential for harm.

I have a feeling lots of fun and exciting new things are planned for W12. Last I heard, Microslop was planning on making it as entirely AI-focused as possible. What a... wonderful... time to be alive... if we're being honest, sometimes I wonder if we'd actually be safer just living in the Aojiru universe, despite the demons.

A lot of the stuff in this thread has been pretty dark and unfortunate, but a few people who are anti-AI - like myself - are laughing pretty hard at the very karmic things that just happened in that particular tech sector!

Most of us probably know these already, but it doesn't hurt to refresh on how they all stand at the present moment.

Some good basics indeed. I am still using Firefox out of habit but find it hard to defend this company and browser at this point, it's gotten so awful with YT too. But it's nice for competition sake that a lot of forks exist.

Librewolf - The article covers. It's like Firefox Private and clears out most things after closing. I use it for streaming sites mainly I don't need to log into
Floorp - Japan developed, seems very good. In fact it is the only browser I've used that passes this test: https://ipleak.net/
Waterfox - Funny name, but seems lightweight and good. Not as strict as Floorp, so maybe more flexible for average users.

Other than that I like Brave and Vivaldi for Chrome browsers.

I had not heard of Floorp! Have used Waterfox in the past though, in fact I think it was what I had on my previous computer configuration. Might go back for another look at both of those.

So what apps do you guys recommend for phone scanning translation? As always I'm careful with Privacy haha. Is Papago good? I saw that one is ideal for Japanese and Asian languages.
